Securing Land Rights for All through Fit-for-Purpose Land Administration Approach: The Case of Nepal

After the political change in Nepal of 1951, leapfrog land policy improvements have been recorded, however, reform initiatives short full success. Despite a administration system based on cadaster and registries place, 25% arable with an estimated 10 million spatial units ground are informally occupied off-register. Recently, strong will has emerged to ensure rights for all. Providing tenure security all these occupants using conventional surveying approach demands large amount skilled human resources, long timeframe huge budget. To assess suitability fit-for-purpose (FFPLA) nationwide mapping registration informality Nepalese context, identification, verification recordation (IVR) people-to-land relationship was conducted through two pilot studies participatory covering around 1500 3400 parcels, respectively, urban rural setting. The were FFPLA National Strategy utilized satellite imageries smartphones identification boundaries.
